At Rock of Christ, we practice expositional preaching because we believe God’s Word is sufficient, authoritative, and best heard when it is allowed to speak for itself. Rather than building sermons around themes, trends, or personal opinions (topical preaching), we work through books of the Bible one passage at a time, letting Scripture set the agenda for the church.
Expositional preaching means:- The main point of the sermon comes from the text, not the preacher. The goal is not to share what we think about the Bible, but to clearly explain what God has said. We work through books of the Bible, verse by verse.
- The whole counsel of God is preached, including the hard, uncomfortable, and easily overlooked passages. Working through books of the Bible keeps us from skipping what is inconvenient or camped out on what is familiar.
- God’s Word shapes God’s people, rather than sermons being shaped by cultural pressure, current events, or personal preference. The preacher stands under the authority of the text, along with the congregation.
- Application flows naturally from Scripture, calling us to repentance, faith, obedience, and joy as God’s Word addresses real life.
We believe this kind of preaching produces lasting fruit because God's Word does not return void (Isaiah 55:11). Over time, expositional preaching trains the church to listen carefully, think biblically, and grow in maturity, confidence, and love for God’s Word.
